‘Near and Far’ Photography Exhibition
Budding Photographers Session
As part of their Photography Exhibition Colleen and Greg are offering Mini Workshops on aerial and aurora photography (Colleen) and travel photography and photobooks (Greg). There will be limited places in the workshops and the cost to participate will be $10.oo. Mini Workshop Registration is now open.
Additionally, Colleen and Greg are offering an opportunity for Budding Photographers to join them in a session on Thursday 16th April from 10:30am to 11:30am.
The Budding Photographers session is aimed towards the 12-18 yrs age range with an interest in photography. Colleen and Greg both have Working with Children checks. Parents of attendees are welcome to explore the exhibition during this time.
Participation in the Budding Photographer session will be free; however, attendees must register in advance as numbers will be limited.
Budding Photographer Registration
This will be an informal and interactive workshop where Colleen and Greg will talk about some of the images on display in the Exhibition and in the process cover topics such as:
- How to develop yourself as a photographer including style, and approaches to photography
- The merits of joining a club, association or regular meet-up group (or forming your own group)
- How to be an ethical and socially responsible photographer
- Developing a Career versus being an enthusiastic Hobbyist
- Hints and tips on taking photographs
Given the variety of cameras and equipment available, there will be limited opportunities to cover ‘how to use your camera. Colleen and Greg will give some general tips in the discussions and answer any technical question as best they can in the time-frame available.

From a professional perspective Colleen and Greg are both educators who bring this additional experience to role as the workshop facilitators:
Colleen Mahoney has extensive experience in education with younger people and has experiences working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Colleen has been an active photography club member and has also been part of the Macedon Ranges Photography Society Management Committee.
Dr Greg McMillan is an international consultant in postsecondary education with experiences in Australia’s TAFE and University sectors as well as overseas. Since 2018 Greg has undertaken significant work in Vietnam that required a strong support for gender equity and diversity practices. Greg has also been heavily involved in photography groups and is a past-President of the Australian Photographic Society
